Planning a Halloween Party

Boo!!! It's almost Halloween again!

It might just be my inner little girl, but when I think of Halloween I think candy and costumes and lots of excitement.

However, here in Spain it's not that much of a tradition. Though it's slowly being introduced, it's still got a long way from being pumpkin-decorated-streets and trick-or-treating for everyone. Even so, I still get excited and I hope to pull off a great Halloween party a.s.a.p.

Everyone knows that organizing a party can always be potencially stressful. So I'm going to talk about how to organize every aspect of the party so you get less stressed planning it and make sure it's THE BOMB!

1. First on the list, colour scheme!

There are loads of scary colour combinations. Two of my favourites are orange, yellow and black (and white with the candy corn) and purple and black. You can also try red and black or any other colour with black. Well, maybe not pink. Pink's not very scary.

Also, decide if you want a particular themed party, such as a movie, a director or a soundtrack. Ask guests to dress the part.

2. Next, guest list. Decide if you want this to be a small get together or a big old fashioned everyone-invited bash. Set on a number of guests. Then, decide if you'll need invitations or if a simple phone call will be enough. Bare in mind the party's colour or theme when deciding on the invitations.

3. Food and drinks. It's Halloween people so we'll need lots of lots of candy. Okay, I need lots of candy. And to be honest there are loads of different snacks you can serve that have no sugar in them whatsoever.

Try to get creative and pick a few fun foods, like ghost cupcakes or pumkin cookies. If possible, match the colour theme.

As with drinks, decorate with floating eyeballs in ice or serve green punch. Whatever you prefer.

4. Decorations!!! Now this is the fun part: pumpkins, fake spider webs, skeletons, witches brooms, fake spiders, crows, etc. Use it all. Cover certain pieces of furniture with old sheets, hey, that way you don't even have to clean. Come to think of it, if you're going for the abandoned house look, don't clean!! It's a win-win!

5. Party favors?? Decide if you're going to give party favours and get a head start. Small bags of sweets are a good option. And if there are loads of people, skip them all together. Too much work.

6. Set a budget for all of the above. How much do you want to spend? What do you have you can re-use. Set a budget and stick to it.

7. Music or movies. You probably don't want to hear crickets so create a playlist or set up a few scary movies on the TV. Remember not to play it too loud though to encourage conversation.

And I think that's it! If you're looking for more inspiration you can check out my Halloween Pinterest Board.
